Bavaria Media to Present Vares & More at MIPCOM

MUNICH/CANNES: Bavaria Media is highlighting the movie cycle Vares from Finland from its MIPCOM catalogue, among other titles.

Based on the novels by Reijo Mäki, Vares is about a private investigator, ladies’ man and hard-drinking pub regular with difficult cases. Solar Films will handle worldwide distribution for outside of Scandinavia. Lead actor Antti Reini, the director Anders Engström and Jukka Helle, the producer and managing director of Solar Films, will present Vares at MIPCOM.

Vares is made up of six 90-minute films, produced by Solar Films in association with Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV3, slated to premiere at the end of 2011.

“We are convinced that Vares will excite our buyers just as much as it has excited us and the Finnish audiences,” said Philipp Kreuzer, the VP of international and co-production at Bavaria Media. “This movie cycle is another important step in our strategy to expand our portfolio with high-quality international programmes and to build on our relationships to renowned production outfits like Solar Films.”

Also in Bavaria Media’s MIPCOM slate is the Dutch series Line 32, about a supposed terrorist bus attack. It is produced by Amsterdam-based IDTV Film for public broadcasters KRO and NCRV. End of Line follows the passengers’ lives in the weeks before the bus explosion.
