Chellomedia Buys into Bosnian Broadcaster

LONDON: Chellomedia has acquired a 40-percent stake in OBN, the leading free-to-air broadcaster in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chellomedia’s operations in Central Europe current has a portfolio of 13 channels, as well as an ad sales business (At Media). OBN, headquartered in Sarajevo, has an audience share of 25 percent and a 25-percent share of the ad market. Its entertainment programming features such series as CSI, Prison Break and Commander in Chief, alongside sports fare, including the Europa League.

Mike Moriarty, the managing director of Chellomedia for Central Europe, said: “This move is consistent with our plan to operate in markets that demonstrate stability and economic growth. OBN has a strong entrepreneurial track record and we look forward to working with the company. Bosnia is a highly attractive market, with good growth potential, and the investment is in-line with Chellomedia’s acquisition strategy.”

Ivan Ćaleta, who acquired the channel in 2000, added: “We are delighted to have entered into this partnership with Chellomedia, which already has significant TV operations in the region and is committed to building successful and popular TV channels.’’
