Video Interview: MDA’s Aubeck Kam

NEW YORK: Aubeck Kam, the CEO of the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), talks in this video interview about the advantages that Singapore offers both local and international content creators, along with discussing the growth in the MDA’s co-production strategy and his broad goals for the regulator.

One of Asia’s smallest media markets, Singapore has had to look outward for growth; most notably by creating an environment for local producers to bring their projects to the world. With pavilions at MIPTV, MIPCOM and other markets, as well as a host of co-production treaties, the MDA has been hard at work making the island nation the go-to financial and creative partner for producers around the world.

The organization, which regulates all media activities in Singapore, has also been enticing international producers, distributors and channels to set up shop in the country. Likely to give that effort an added boost is Mediapolis, a planned 19-hectare infrastructure with soundstages, post-production outfits, uplink and downlink broadcast facilities and more. The first tenant at Mediapolis will be Singaporean broadcaster MediaCorp, which announced late last year its intention to move its headquarters to the new complex.
