Latin American Growth Drives Q2 Gains at DIRECTV

EL SEGUNDO: Record subscriber growth at its Latin American business and a 13-percent boost in U.S. ARPU drove DIRECTV’s second-quarter revenues up by 13 percent to reach $6.6 billion, delivering a net profit that rose by 29 percent to $701 million.

At the U.S. platform, revenues rose 7 percent to $5.3 billion, with ARPU up to $90.58. Operating profit for the segment rose 13 percent to $1 billion. DIRECTV U.S. did however see a considerable slowdown in new subscriber additions, adding 26,000 in the period as compared with 100,000 in Q2 last year. With churn up to 1.59 percent from 1.51 percent, it ended the period with 19.4 million cumulative subscribers, up from last year’s 18.8 million.

DIRECTV Latin America’s revenues rose 46 percent to $1.25 billion and operating profit rose 72 percent to $241 million. ARPU rose from $56.98 to $64.56. Net subscriber additions rose from 415,000 to 472,000, resulting in a total subscriber base of 6.7 million, up from 5.2 million.
