LOS ANGELES: Fox Networks and Fox Broadcasting Company have unveiled a new online authentication initiative that sees programming available only to pay-TV customers during an eight-day window.

Starting August 15, video distributors that participate in the authentication service will have an exclusive eight-day window for new episodes of FOX shows. A login will be needed if viewers want the content within the first eight days after it airs on the FOX channel.

DISH Network is already on board to offer the service to its customers, who can log on to Dishonline.com or Fox.com to watch episodes the day after they air on TV. Hulu.com will also allow authenticated access for FOX shows.

“We are continually looking at opportunities to provide our pay television distributors with content and products that enhance the value of pay television to subscribers,” said Michael Hopkins, the president of affiliate sales and marketing for Fox Networks. “Our new authentication service will continue to provide next-day access to FOX broadcast shows for our viewers who subscribe to participating pay television providers.”

“DISH Network is proud to be the first pay-TV provider in America to give customers the opportunity to take full advantage of the new FOX.com viewing experience—at no additional cost,” added Dave Shull, the senior VP of programming for DISH Network. “Early access to FOX.com is a terrific addition to our expansive TV Everywhere platform, which gives DISH Network customers the ability to watch whatever they want anytime, anywhere.”
