MIAMI: The Univision Network’s new reality series Protagonistas, where men and women compete for a spot as the next Univision telenovela star, is to premiere October 12.

The Univision Studios and Imagina US production has begun auditioning contestants from around the country. Contestants will compete to be in the top 20, but only 12 will move into the Protagonistas studio house in Miami.

A panel of judges and professional coaches guide the contestants through challenges that involve acting, dancing, singing and hosting. Each week, the contestants act out scenes from popular Univision novelas and then are eliminated based on the judges’ low scores and viewer votes.

Auditions are open to Spanish-speaking legal residents of the U.S. and Puerto Rico, ages 18 to 28.
