LOS GATOS: Netflix is stepping up its international expansion, announcing plans to bring its TV series- and movie-streaming service to 43 markets across Latin America and the Caribbean later this year.

A launch date has not yet been announced for the expansion of the streaming service, which began in the U.S. in 2007 and in Canada last year. Once operational, subscribers in Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean will be able to watch local as well as international TV series and movies via select connected devices. Consumers will be able to watch in Spanish, Portuguese or English.

Netflix currently has 23 million members in the U.S. and Canada, subscribing to its DVD-by-mail and streaming services.
