OTTAWA: Pre-production has begun on Genuine Pictures’ live-action/CG-animated series Beats in Bites, set for broadcast on TVOntario in early 2012 with distribution being handled by CCI Entertainment.

Beats in Bites celebrates the art of beatboxing. It features Canadian beatbox artists Julie Dales and Ammar Abou-Agena, as well as four young future beatbox talents. Each episode watches as the two experts teach children how to produce sounds using the mouth, lips, tongue and voice. The show also features two real-life parrots, Sunny and Pepper, who mimic the sounds of the performers.

The 32×7-minute series goes into production at Ottawa’s Fuel Studios in August. CCI will handle international distribution, while Visual Education Centre/Learn 360 will distribute the series educationally.

Creator Donna Leon commented: “Beats takes us off the road and into a green-screen studio. We traditionally shoot on location, so this is an exciting change for us. We are looking forward to bringing the art of beatboxing to young Canadian audiences and youth around the world.”
