LONDON: Endemol and MediaCorp are bringing the hit game show The Money Drop to Singapore, with a local version to launch in prime time on Channel 5 this fall.

Marking the format’s first commission in Asia, the deal will see the Singaporean series launch on MediaCorp’s Channel 5 on August 9, Singapore National Day. The show will air in a weekly prime-time slot, with 13 50-minute episodes to be produced.

The Money Drop was created and launched by Endemol UK last year, and has sold into 27 countries, including the U.S.

Arjen van Mierlo, the CEO of Endemol Asia, commented: “The Money Drop has been an overnight hit in the world’s biggest territories and it is great to see it finally coming to Asia. In Singapore, Channel 5 viewers can look forward to white-knuckle tension and the ultimate jeopardy—the chance to hold on to a million in hard cash; or watch it drop and disappear for good.”

Miss Lim Suat Jien, the executive VP of Channel 5 and okto at MediaCorp, added: “Channel 5 is constantly looking out for fresh and innovative international formats. With its exciting format, high entertainment value and outstanding production standards, we are confident that The Money Drop will garner positive viewership and support from our audience.”
