CLEVELAND: Original Appalachian Artworks, the owner of the Cabbage Patch Kids property, has granted CWA Carlin West Agency together with producer Galen Walker the rights to create an animated TV special based on the classic brand.

The Cabbage Patch Kids phenomenon first took off in 1983, and more than 122 million Cabbage Patch Kids dolls have been adopted since. Walker is also behind the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and is producing the new live-action TMNT feature with Paramount.

Carlin West commented: “Working with the Cabbage Patch Kids and their creator Xavier Roberts has been a very special part of my career. I am excited that Xavier has granted us the rights to bring the magic of the Cabbage Patch Kids into the world of entertainment. I am also thrilled to work on this project with Galen, he is a seasoned, creative producer who understands the special nature of bringing iconic brands into the world of entertainment as proven by his box office success of the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature.”

Walker said, “The Cabbage Patch Kids are timeless and hold a special place in millions of people’s hearts around the world. It’s a brand filled with many positive messages for kids. Through this new project we want to further enhance the special bond children and parents have reacted to for the past three decades. Carlin and I couldn’t be more pleased with this opportunity!”
