CSI, Desperate Housewives Win Golden Nymph Awards

MONTE-CARLO: The winners of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival’s Golden Nymph Awards have been announced, with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation taking the international audience award for best drama, while Desperate Housewives took the comedy win.

The international TV audience award for best soap/telenovela went to The Bold and the Beautiful.

In the series category for comedy, Twentieth Century Fox TV Distribution won for outstanding international producer for Modern Family. France’s Elephant Story was named outstanding European producer for Desperate Parents. Annette Frier took the win for best comedic actress for Germany’s Danni Lowinksi, while 30 Rock‘s Tracy Morgan won on the male side.

For drama, Lionsgate won for international producer for Mad Men, while Dramedy Productions of the Czech Republic was named best European producer for Wonderful Times. Sidse Babett Knudsen won for best dramatic actress for Denmark’s Government. Jon Hamm of Mad Men was named best actor in the category.

Japan’s A School Behind Bars won for best TV movie. Christian Faure was awarded as best director for France’s Mademoiselle Drot. In the telefilm category, Ken Watanabe of A School Behind Bars was named best actor, while Louise Monot from Mademoiselle Drot was best actress.

The Golden Nymph for best mini-series went to The Queen of Swing, from Italy’s RAI Fiction. The Queen of Swing‘s Andrea Osvart, Elise Schaap and Lotte Verbeek were recognized in the actress category. Edgar Ramirez of France’s Carlos was named best actor.

Awards were also presented in the news category. Best news documentaries were France’s Tunisia: Revolution on the March and Japan’s Laugh it Away and Say Goodbye. Best TV news item went to the U.K.’s Sky News for Battle for Zawiya. Sky News’ Mubarak Steps Down won for best 24-hour news program.

A handful of special prizes were also given out. The Prize of Prince Rainier III went to Tipping Point from Georama TV Productions in France. The Grand Prix for Author’s Documentaries was awarded to Corps et Ame from TVM of Mozambique. The Amade Prize went to Threads of our Hearts from NHK in Japan. The Prize of the International Committee of the Red Cross went to Tunisia: Revolution on the March, while the Signis Prize was awarded to Defenseless, from Zieglerfilm Munchen of Germany. The Prize of the Monaco Red Cross went to A School Behind Bars.
