LOS ANGELES: The FX comedy series Wilfred, starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann, has scored a slot in the U.K. on BBC Three for the fall.

The live-action comedy debuts in the U.S. on FX on June 23. Wood stars as Ryan, an introvert who is struggling to make his way in the world. This is until he meets Wilfred, played by Gann, his neighbor’s canine pet. The world sees Wilfred as a dog, yet Ryan sees him as a man dressed in a dog suit. Wilfred is based on the critically acclaimed Australian series of the same title.

“We are delighted to be expanding our comedy lineup with BBC Three and feel confident that Wilfred will prove a big hit with the U.K.,” said Steve Cornish, the senior VP and managing director of Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.

“This is great news for the series and we’re very optimistic about the future of Wilfred,” added Eric Schrier, the executive VP of FX Productions and senior VP of original programming for FX Networks. “Foreign markets are becoming increasingly familiar with FX’s brand of comedy and its appeal with younger adult audiences. BBC Three, with outstanding comedies like Family Guy and American Dad, is a great home for Wilfred.”
