PHILADELPHIA: Comcast customers have watched 20 billion entertainment choices on demand since the service’s launch in 2003, with The Hangover as its most-viewed new release movie and South Park as the most-viewed TV series.

When Comcast launched its on-demand service, it had half its customer base and 740 movies, music videos and cartoons from a handful of providers. Today, the service reaches 20 million customers, with approximately 350 million programs viewed each month.

The most-viewed new release movies are The Hangover, taking the top spot, followed by The Blind Side and Couples Retreat. South Park ranks as the most-viewed series overall, with Entourage and Sex and the City placing in the top three. Beyonce scored the most views for a musical artist, with Chris Brown as number two and Ciara as number three.

"On Demand was the first technology to give millions of our customers instant access to entertainment choices to watch on their schedule," said Marcien Jenckes, the senior VP and general manager of video services at Comcast. "By making a huge library of content available for free with a click of the remote, On Demand was an instant hit and continues to drive viewership. The service has been a major influence in the adoption of time-shifted viewing, which has now become mainstream."
