CANNES: Tricon Films & Television is at MIPTV showcasing the CBC comedy InSecurity, a comedic take on spy shows that has been renewed for a second season by CBC, its co-creator, Virginia Thompson, tells World Screen Newsflash.

"I was inspired by the obsession [the world] has with security," says Thompson, who with Robert de Lint runs Vérite Films, the outfit behind the megahit Canadian comedy Corner Gas. "It’s about a group of secret agents. They have a mission every week of international intrigue and they have baddies."

Thompson says she had talks with a number of distributors before clinching a deal with Tricon. "They have a very boutique approach, and we’re a boutique production company. Tricon wants to work with creative people and engage them in the distribution process. It’s been the best relationship."
