BBC Worldwide Sells Royal Wedding Special

CANNES: The one-off special William and Kate: A Royal Engagement has been sold by BBC Worldwide to 32 broadcasters in more than 24 territories. 

Universal in the U.S., Bio Channel in Australia, CDI SRL in Italy and Cineplex in Thailand are among those that picked up the title. William and Kate: A Royal Engagement features contributions from close friends, historians, biographers and journalists, revealing the couple’s different backgrounds and upbringings as well as tracing their relationship leading up to the engagement. 

Steve Macallister, the managing director for sales and distribution at BBC Worldwide, said: “The impressive sales of William and Kate: A Royal Engagement highlight the international interest there is in the imminent royal wedding and we have a strong collection of new programs to satisfy this demand at MIPTV.”

BBC Worldwide has a host of other royal-wedding-themed content for buyers, including the two-part doc Britain’s Royal Weddings, the one-off Untold Stories of a Royal Bridesmade and the two-parter Royally Mad. Also in the mix is Inside the Royal Wedding, a production for NBC. BBC Worldwide also has the international distribution rights to the BBC One feed of the wedding ceremony, taking place April 29.
