LONDON: BBC Worldwide has inked a deal to bring a branded block of high-definition content to subscribers of the pay-TV platform SKY Brazil.

This is the first time that high-definition content from the BBC has aired in a branded channel environment in Latin America. The block is available now, Mondays to Fridays, until March 4.

"BBC HD is not only a huge differentiator for SKY, but the launch of the programming block also underscores BBC Worldwide’s firm commitment to offering Brazilian television viewers high quality content in the most innovative formats available in the market,” said Jessica Rodriguez, senior VP and general manager at BBC Worldwide Channels for Latin America & U.S. Hispanic.

"SKY is the first and only operator in Latin America to provide its subscribers with innovative programming from the BBC, presented in a format that will revolutionize the viewing experience," added Marcia Cross, the director of programming at SKY Brazil. "This type of content adds value to our HD offering and helps to consolidate SKY’s leading position in an increasingly competitive market."
