Carson Daly to Host New NBC Singing Competition

UNIVERSAL CITY: The new NBC vocal competition The Voice, from John de Mol, Mark Burnett and Warner Horizon Television, is to be hosted by Carson Daly, who also fronts the network’s late-night talk show Last Call with Carson Daly.

Daly began his career in radio in the early ’90s and became the early evening voice of Los Angeles’s KROQ-FM. He went on to join MTV as the host and executive producer of Total Request Live (TRL). He began his late-night TV show Last Call with Carson Daly in January 2002, which is currently entering its tenth season. He and Universal Media Studios also produced the annual New Year’s Eve prime-time special for its seventh year. He is currently hosting the morning drive radio program Monday through Friday on KAMP.

"Carson is the perfect choice to host this exciting new series owing to his credibility, popularity and relevance in both the music world and social media," said Paul Telegdy, the executive VP of alternative programming and production at NBC. "As he has demonstrated on his late-night show, Carson has the knack of recognizing new talent, which is a key component in The Voice."

"I have a true appreciation for authentic, raw talent and The Voice is all about finding that," commented Daly. "Having worked in the music industry for many years, I am looking forward to hosting The Voice. This is a show based strictly on vocal performance—giving all kinds of talented singers the opportunity to reach millions across the country."

The Voice is modeled after Holland’s top-rated vocal-talent discovery show, The Voice of Holland. The show will make its U.S. debut in spring 2011.
