Golden Globes 2011: Boardwalk Empire, Glee, The Social Network Land Top Honors

UNIVERSAL CITY: HBO newcomer Boardwalk Empire took the win for best drama series at last night’s Golden Globe Awards, while Glee scored the comedy win and The Social Network was named best motion picture. 

Boardwalk Empire beat out Dexter, The Good Wife, Mad Men and The Walking Dead in the drama series category. Katey Sagal won for best actress in a drama series for Sons of Anarchy. Steve Buscemi was named best actor in a drama for Boardwalk Empire

Glee‘s comedy win saw the FOX musical beating out 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, The Big C, Modern Family and Nurse Jackie. The Big C‘s Laura Linney scored the nod for best actress in a comedy series and The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons won as best male comedic actor in a TV series. 

Sundance Channel’s Carlos won for best mini-series or TV movie. Claire Danes scored a statuette on the performance side of the category for Temple Grandin. Al Pacino was recognized for his role as Jack Kevorkian in HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack

Supporting female and male performance wins for a mini-series, TV movie or series went to Glee‘s Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer. 

In the motion picture categories, The Social Network took top honors as best drama, beating out Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception and The King’s Speech. Black Swan‘s Natalie Portman did take the win for best actress, and Colin Firth was named best actor for The King’s Speech. 

The Kids Are All Right led the comedy categories, with the film winning for best motion picture and star Annette Bening taking best female lead (co-star Julianne Moore was also a nominee in the category for her role in The Kids Are All Right). The win for best male in a comedy went to Paul Giamatti for Barney’s Version. The supporting nods went to The Fighter‘s Melissa Leo and Christian Bale. 

Toy Story 3 won this year’s best animated feature film trophy. In a Better World from Denmark won as best foreign language film. 

In addition to the night’s big win, The Social Network also took home best director (David Fincher) and best screenplay (Aaron Sorkin).
