News Corp. Offers EC Remedies for BSkyB Bid Issues

BRUSSELS: News Corporation has offered remedies to concerns the European Commission has raised about its proposed takeover of BSkyB, in a bid to win antitrust approval for the $12 billion deal.

News Corp. is reaching out to the EC by offering specific commitments that ease potential concerns over competition. Responding, the regulator announced that it has extended the deadline for the first phase of its competition investigation from December 8 to 22.

No details of the remedies offered by News Corp. were given.

Ofcom is also investigating the proposed bid on plurality grounds. It will report on December 31.
