STOCKHOLM: The drama series Ezel, produced by Ay Yapim, has been sold by Sparks Network to a number of new broadcasters across Europe and the Middle East.

The production originated in Turkey and has been licensed to broadcasters in more than 30 territories, including Greece (Antena), the Middle East, Bulgaria, Romania (Kanal D), Croatia (RTL), Serbia (Fox), Slovenia and Macedonia. An additional five to ten countries are expected to sign up during the coming months.

The drama series is about a young man returning from military service. He winds up in prison after being set up by his best friends and fiancé. In jail, he fakes his own death and returns as Ezel. The first season included 33 90-minute episodes. A second season is currently on air with 35 additional episodes.

Fredrik af Malmborg, the managing director of Sparks, commented: "We spotted this series early 2009 as Ay Yapim in Istanbul presented their new development. We loved it from the very first frame, it is a great series—A spectacular love story based on a classic theme and with very good actors and scripts."
