Modern Family, Mad Men Take Top Emmy Wins

NEW YORK: Newcomer Modern Family took home the statuette for outstanding comedy series at last night’s Primetime Emmy Awards, while Mad Men scored its third consecutive win for best drama.

Overall, HBO took home 25 Emmys in total, the most for any network for the eleventh year in a row. ABC followed with 18, FOX with 11, CBS with 10 and NBC with 8.

Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad won for lead actor in a drama, while Kyra Sedgwick of The Closer won for lead actress in the category. Supporting wins went to Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul and Archie Panjabi of The Good Wife.

On the comedy side, Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory won for best actor, and Edie Falco of Nurse Jackie was named best actress. Glee‘s Jane Lynch took home a supporting win in the category. Modern Family‘s Eric Stonestreet nabbed the supporting win on the male performance side.

Top Chef was the winner for outstanding reality competition program. Best mini-series was HBO’s The Pacific, with HBO also scoring a nod in the TV movie category for Temple Grandin. Temple Grandin lead Claire Danes was recognized for her performance, with a statuette in the mini-series or movie category. Outstanding lead actor for mini-series or movie was Al Pacino for HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack. In the category for variety, music or comedy series, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart came out on top.
