LONDON/TORONTO: Entertainment One (eOne) has taken on the U.K. and Canadian distribution rights to the 3D film Gnomeo and Juliet from Pathé International.

The film is set to be released in February 2011 in the U.K. and Canada, followed by a later release by Touchstone Pictures in the U.S. that month. The 3D movie plays on the classic love story of Romeo and Juliet, but with garden gnomes. It is produced by Rocket Pictures’ David Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw and Disney’s Baker Bloodworth.

Mike Runagall of Pathé International said: "We are thrilled to be working with eOne, who have proved themselves to be particularly adept in the family market and will be a great partner to bring this sure-fire crowd-pleaser to U.K. and Canadian audiences."

Patrice Theroux, the president of filmed entertainment at eOne, commented: "With exceptional animation, a phenomenal cast and amazing music, we firmly believe that audiences in the U.K. and Canada will fall in love with this picture. This deal is further evidence that we have established multi-territory network that ensures broad distribution for independent producers and we look forward to working with Pathé and other partners involved in this film to ensure its success."
