Nickelodeon Celebrates 10 Years of Dora the Explorer

NEW YORK: In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the hit series Dora the Explorer, Nickelodeon has slated an hour-long prime-time TV movie, Dora’s Big Birthday Adventure, along with a specially commissioned Dora documentary.

Dora’s Big Birthday Adventure will air August 15 at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon. Following at 9 p.m., Nick will premiere the first-ever Dora tenth anniversary documentary, a special 12-minute tribute to the show. The documentary explores the series’ cultural and educational impact and features appearances by Dora and her friends, commentary from creators Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes and Eric Weiner, industry experts, real-life kids and celebrities such as Anderson Cooper, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie Perez, Salma Hayek Pinault, Shakira, Soledad O’Brien and Sherri Shepherd.

"For the past 10 years, Dora the Explorer has been a pioneer—a symbol of empowerment, diversity and education," said Brown Johnson, the president of animation at Nickelodeon. "She has captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world and will continue to inspire and entertain preschoolers for many years to come."
