New Home for Millionaire in India

LONDON: Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, which first made its mark in India on Star Plus, has found a new home on Sony Entertainment Television—with Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan due back to host—as part of a slew of new activity on the format from Sony Pictures Television’s 2waytraffic. 

The hit game-show format was recently licensed in Sri Lanka, with MTV to air 30 hour-long episodes starting in August. In Bangladesh, the show will launch in September on DESH TV. In India, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? heads to Sony Entertainment Television in October. The series launches on Televicentro in Honduras early next year. 

France’s TF1 renewed the show for another season, marking its tenth year. In the U.K., the format returns to ITV1 later this summer, in its 12th year. In Germany, a live celebrity special aired in May, drawing in 8.5 million viewers for RTL. 

The spin-off Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Hot Seat has also scored deals. In addition to its ratings success in Australia, Norway, Denmark and Italy, the format notched up a new deal in Portugal, where it premieres in prime time on RTP in July. In Asia, the show has been licensed in Indonesia to RCTI for a July launch and in Vietnam to VTV3 for a September debut.
