BANFF: Canada’s TELETOON has five new original Canadian series that have been greenlit for production, including GeoFreakZ, which will be integrated across TV, online and social-media platforms.

From CCI Entertainment, GeoFreakZ combines the treasure-hunting family sport of geocaching, the social networking potential of the web and the storytelling driver of television. Also on the development roster is Crash Canyon, from Breakthrough Films & Television. The 18×30-minute series follows a family who are on vacation in their camper trailer and wind up stuck in a chasm along with a whole community who had befallen the same fate.

In the 14×30-minute Detentionaire, Lee Ping is blamed for pulling off a mind-blowing practical joke and is sentenced to spend the rest of his school year in detention. The half-hour series comes in addition to Mudpit, from Cookie Jar Entertainment. Mudpit is a live-action and animated comedy series that tells the story of four teens who form a virtual rock band in hopes of becoming real rock stars. There’s also My Babysitter’s a Vampire from Fresh TV. Based on the TELETOON movie of the same name, the live-action series follows the adventures of a sci-fi geek, his best pal and their recent vampire recruit, who help the good-looking babysitter defend the town against supernatural phenomena.

In addition to these series, TELETOON is also developing Quasitoon Tim (Sardine Productions), Artificial Idol (DHX Media), Gofers (Neptoon Studios), Sherlock Legacy (Bejuba) and the older-skewing Senior Years (Fresh TV). The fall schedule of TELETOON further boasts originals such as Total Drama World Tour and Johnny Test, along with new shows Skatoony and Dating Guy.

“As a proud supporter of Canada’s animation and kids television industry, we’re very excited to present our upcoming production lineup,” said Carole Bonneau, the VP of programming at TELETOON Canada. “The latest slate continues to harvest successful homegrown animation productions, all the while taking advantage of new opportunities, including TELETOON’s foray into live action with My Babysitter’s a Vampire and our 360-degree application to the new series GeoFreakZ.”
