Golden Nymph Awards Presented at Monte-Carlo TV Fest

MONTE-CARLO: The winners of this year’s Golden Nymph Awards have been named for the 50th Monte-Carlo Television Festival, with drama wins going to Mad Men and The Killing II and comedy nods to 30 Rock and The Thick of It.

Lionsgate won the award for outstanding international producer for Mad Men, while Danish Broadcasting Corporation won for outstanding European producer for The Killing II. The drama performance wins went to Michelle Forbes for season two of Canada’s Durham County and Michael C. Hall of Dexter.

NBC Universal took the comedy win for 30 Rock in the international producer category, and BBC Productions won for European producer for The Think of It. The comedic actress award went to Diana Amft for Germany’s Doctor’s Diary and comedic actor went Steve Carell of The Office.

The international TV audience awards went to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for drama, Desperate Housewives for comedy and The Bold and the Beautiful for telenovela/soap opera.

In the mini-series category, the award went to Once Upon a Time: The City of Fools from RAI Fiction of Italy. Outstanding actress is Noomi Rapace for Millenium: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from Sweden and outstanding actor is Fabrizio Gifuni for Once Upon a Time: The City of Fools.

For TV movies, Goldfish from NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation took the top award, and Vera Glagoleva won for best direction for Russia’s One War. Outstanding actor in the category is Pierre Vernier for France’s Farewell De Gaulle, Farewell. Outstanding actress is Julie Walters for the U.K.’s Mo.

Best news documentaries were Dealing with Pirates from Danish Broadcasting Corporation and China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of the Sichuan Province from HBO. Best TV news item went to Lucia Newman: Colombia Drug Labs Attack from Qatar’s Al Jazeera English. CNN Reports: Haiti Earthquake was named as best 24-hour news program .

There were also a number of special prizes. The Prince Rainier III Special Prize went to Earth: The Global Challenge from Portugal’s TVI. The Urti Prize (Grand Prix for Author’s Documentaries) went to Me, My Gipsy Family and Woody Allen from Italy’s RAI. The Amade Prize went to HBO’s Temple Gardin. Fingerprints from YLE Finnish Broadcasting Company took home the International Committee of the Red Cross Prize. One War from Russia’s Horosho Production won both the Signis Prize and the Monaco Red Cross Prize.
