President Named for Discovery/IMAX/Sony JV

LOS ANGELES: Discovery Channel’s Tom Cosgrove has been selected to run the upcoming 3D network from Sony Corporation, Discovery Communications and IMAX Corporation.

As president and CEO, Cosgrove has responsibility for all business and creative areas of the joint venture, reporting to a board of directors comprised of representatives from all three partners. The still-unnamed network will offer 3D content in the natural history, space, exploration, adventure, engineering, science and technology genres, as well as feature films, drawn from the partners’ libraries as well as from third-party providers.

Cosgrove was most recently the executive VP and COO of Discovery Channel. He is an ex general manager of Science Channel, and prior to that served as senior VP of programming for Discovery Channel, Science Channel, Discovery Times and Military Channel. Cosgrove also ran TV Guide Channel and has held senior management positions at ABC Family, Fox Family, Fox Kids and FOX Broadcasting.

Rebecca Glashow, senior VP of digital distribution for Discovery Communications, will oversee distribution for the channel, while Amy Carney, president of advertiser sales at Sony Pictures Television, will lead advertising/promotion sales. Sony Pictures Television will provide all advertising sales-related services for the joint venture.
