L.A. Screenings Buyer Feedback: ProSiebenSat.1

LOS ANGELES: Rüdiger Böss, the head of acquisitions at the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, found that at this year’s Screenings, there were more good shows than last year, but not many outstanding, completely new ideas.

“While [shows about] doctors and nurses take a break, cops, special units and lawyers are back in full force,” says Böss, who also noted that most of the shows were well suited for the international market and not specifically targeted to the U.S. audience.

He was most impressed with Hawaii Five-O and The Defenders, both for CBS. “We have already secured the rights to these series,” says Böss. He also liked Chase from Warner Bros. for NBC, The Good Guys from Twentieth Century Fox for FOX and Love Bites from NBC Universal for NBC.

“Superheroes are in vogue with a promising new drama from Disney, No Ordinary Family, about a family whose members discover that they have superpowers,” adds Böss.

We are especially looking for shows in prime time because we build a second prime-time evening with U.S. series on Sat.1 and need a few new series for our channel kabeleins, because a couple of our shows like Ghost Whisperer or Cold Case have ended.”
