New Season Slated for Plaza Sésamo

MEXICO CITY/NEW YORK: A 13th season, consisting of 65 half-hour episodes, of the Latin American version of Sesame Street, Plaza Sésamo, is in the works from co-producers Sesame Workshop and Televisa.

The new season will spotlight conflict resolution and emphasize literacy and storytelling. The 13th installment will also see the introduction of a new muppet character, Gaby. A 4-year-old girl, Gaby is shy yet loves to sing. The Plaza also has a brighter, fresher appearance in the new season. There are more buildings with various architectural designs, more windows and balconies, grass and brighter colors. Several of the new Plaza Sésamo episodes will tell stories through longer formats as well.

“It is a delight to join the Plaza Sésamo family along with Gaby. While the show is on its 13th season, for us it is just the first—I hope she is as excited as I am,” said Lorenzo Dunoyer, the recently appointed senior producer of the show. “With experienced teams from Sesame Workshop and Televisa, I look forward to working with Abelardo, Lola, Pancho and Gaby to present children across the Americas with a valuable foundation of lessons to prepare them for school and life.”

“When producing a children’s series that aims to equally engage and educate children and families, humor and creativity must be at the root of the process,” said executive producer  Javier Williams. “It is thrilling to watch fresh new talent learning to master the art of feathers and fur, laughter and learning, as they join our mission to provide children throughout Mexico with a viewing experience unlike any other children’s program. The team feels refreshed and vibrant, and so will the new season of Plaza Sésamo.
