Astro Rolls Out Local Sports Net

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian DTH platform Astro today launched its first 24-hour local sports channel, Astro Arena.

“Astro continues to be ahead of the game through our strong sports value proposition of bringing the best of international and now local sports to Malaysian sports fans," said Lee Choong Khay, the head of sports business at Astro. "We believe that Astro Arena meets the unfulfilled demand for local sports content and is able to provide more opportunities for national sports associations and other local sporting bodies to have their sports news and events viewed by a bigger audience on ASTRO’s platform."

He continued: “Just [as] Sunday is a sports action day for most countries, we will start a new sports culture by introducing staple sports content on Astro Arena like Arena Bola Selasa and Arena Bola Jumaat which will present live coverage of Malaysian Super League (MSL) matches played on Tuesday and Friday nights which also features commentary from local pundits, experts, coaches, former players.”

Beyond local sports coverage, Astro Arena will also provide live coverage of sports events featuring local athletes competing at the regional and international levels. It forms part of the Family Package.
