MEG Formats Adds to Slate

LONDON: Media Entertainment Group (MEG) has picked up two new titles from the U.S. for its formats slate, Camping with the In-laws and Second Chance Makeover.

Created by Clay Newbill at 310 Entertainment (producer of The Mole) and Spike Jones, Jr. at SJ2 Entertainment, Camping with the In-Laws is a one-hour comedy reality series that pits two teams of engaged couples and their future in-laws against the elements and each other. The teams compete in physically humorous and relationship-provoking challenges to win a grand prize wedding and honeymoon package. The pilot was originally ordered by Living TV in the U.S.

MEG has also secured the original online comedy format Second Chance Makeover. The show began as a series of webisodes online, produced by Gary Gershaw at Classified Creative. The show watches as a homeless person is taken off the streets, having their life changed all with donations collected from passersby.

These new U.S. formats join recent acquisitions Miss Lingerie Model from New Zealand’s Comedia Productions, Catch Me If You Can from French indie La Creature and This Is Your Fridge, an original idea from London-based producer Mendoza Films.

Sarah Coursey, the VP of MEG Formats, said: “For the past ten years, MEG has been the world leader in the distribution of short-form comedy content. It is a natural transition that some of our star formats going to MIPTV will tickle the same funny bone. Our formats twist comedy until it stands on its head, tackling the fish out of water with a high-stakes, emotional prize attached in Camping with the In-Laws, and taking the inspirational risk of tackling the subject of homelessness with humor as light-hearted elbow grease.”
