Studio Lambert Gets Channel 4 Commission

LONDON: Channel 4 has ordered a new 8×1-hour series from Studio Lambert, tentatively titled The Village, in which a group of eight participants will have the opportunity to start a new life in a close-knit rural community.

The show will follow a group who all move in under one roof in a village. They will work alongside the local community and will be given opportunities, collectively and individually, that will be of benefit to the village and villagers. Each week, everyone in the village will be invited to attend a meeting, where they can take part in a ballot to determine who they think should stay. The last of the group will win the house. The participants will be people who would have otherwise not been able to afford to own a home and have expressed a desire to live in a rural area.

The series will be distributed by ALL3MEDIA International.

Dominique Walker, the commissioning editor of factual entertainment at Channel 4, said, “To embed a formatted series in the heart of rural Britain is a fresh concept and makes this an exciting new series for us. The most interesting thing for me will be watching the values and judgements of the village unfold as they decide who will join them as a permanent member of their community."

“This is a series that will highlight the benefits of living in a close knit community,” added executive producer Stephen Lambert. “With all the political parties focused on making communities work better, we think this series will be very timely.”
