New Discovery Channel Special Investigates King Tut

SILVER SPRING: A forensic investigation into the life and times of Egypt’s King Tut will be the focus of a new two-night special event, King Tut Unwrapped, debuting February 21 at 8 p.m. on Discovery Channel.

World-renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawass leads the investigation, which reveals for the first time the identity of Tut’s parents and grandparents, his cause of death and new details of his reign. Part one follows the first-ever DNA extraction from Tut’s mummy, while part two uses never-before-examined evidence to draw conclusions about his life.

Clark Bunting, the president and general manager of Discovery Channel and Science Channel, said, "Discovery is honored once again to work with Dr. Zahi Hawass. The life and death of King Tut continues to hold a special power and mystery for people all over the world. Dr. Hawass’ trailblazing leadership has successfully fused traditional, methodical archeology with cutting-edge, advanced forensics. This is a new chapter in Egyptology firmly establishing Cairo as a center for innovation and scholarship."

The special is set to rollout on Discovery Channels worldwide throughout March, April, May, June and early July.
