48 Million Tune in for Obama’s First State of the Union Address

NEW YORK: U.S. President Barack Obama’s first State of the Union address on Wednesday at 9 p.m. was broadcast on 11 networks, averaging 48 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

Viewership for Obama’s State of the Union address was down 7 percent from President Bush’s first official State of the Union address on January 29, 2002. Obama’s address was up 5 percent from President Clinton’s first official address on January 25, 1994. The networks carrying the address were ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, TEL, UNI, CNN, BET, CNBC, FOXNC and MSNBC.
