Globo Documentaries Picked Up in Italy

SÃO PAULO: Globo TV International has sold the first season of GloboDoc and a special about Carnaval to Italian DTT channel Dahlia Explorer.

GloboDoc showcases the beauty of the flora and fauna of Brazil, featuring the Pantanal, vegetation of Cerrado, deserted beaches and other ecosystems. GloboDoc Carnaval gives a behind-the-scenes look at what is considered to be the largest party in the world. The GloboDoc documentary series will gain seven new titles at NATPE, covering the categories of culture, science and technology and personalities.

"Italy is the first large European market to broadcast our docs," said Raphael Corrêa Netto, the head of international sales at Globo TV International. "Without a doubt, this deal opens a door to other European markets apart from the U.S.A., Canada and Japan. We are confident in this product."

Globo is on hand at NATPE with 13 new productions, ranging from telenovelas, mini-series, comedies, dramas, documentaries, specials and formats. Highlights include two new formats, Profession Reporter and Sketch It Out, as well as the telenovela India: A Love Story, which took home the International Emmy in 2009 for best telenovela.

"We are betting on genres that were a great success in Brazil, audience leader productions and that had a lot of repercussion when broadcast," Corrêa added. "All of them have a high production value and present themes that please the most distinct viewers, with the peculiar happiness of our people. The series, mini-series and telenovelas include drama and humor. Also, the documentaries and specials present the Brazilian culture to other countries."
