MTV Networks Presents Hope for Haiti Global Telethon

NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES: Hope for Haiti, a two-hour telethon presented by MTV Networks to benefit earthquake relief efforts, is to air commercial free across a host of channels in the U.S., among them ABC, NBC, FOX and HBO, and will also be made available to MTV Networks International, CNN International and National Geographic channels worldwide.

CNN, BET, The CW, MTV, VH1 and CMT are also set to air the two-hour special in the U.S., broadcasting January 22 at 8 p.m. All proceeds will be split evenly among five relief organizations currently operating in Haiti: Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Yele Haiti Foundation. Facebook and MySpace have signed on as official social-media partners to help drive donations and tune-in to the telethon.

George Clooney will lead the telethon in Los Angeles, Wyclef Jean in New York City and CNN’s Anderson Cooper from Haiti. The event will feature musical performances and celebrity appearances, with the lineup to be announced, as well as live news reports from CNN. Hope for Haiti will be produced by Joel Gallen, Tenth Planet Productions, in collaboration with MTV Networks and George Clooney.
