Glee Racks Up Golden Globe Noms

UNIVERSAL CITY: The freshman musical dramedy Glee notched up four nominations for the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards, making it the most-nominated series, while HBO was once again the most-nominated network, with 17 nods in total. 

FOX’s Glee faces off for best comedy with NBC’s 30 Rock and The Office, as well as HBO’s Entourage and ABC’s Modern Family. In the drama category, AMC’s Mad Men looks to defend its win against HBO’s Big Love and True Blood, Showtime’s Dexter and FOX’s House

Best performance by an actor in a drama series contenders are Simon Baker of The Mentalist, Michael C. Hall for Dexter, Jon Hamm for Mad Men, Hugh Laurie for House and Bill Paxton for Big Love. The female performance nominees in the drama category are Glenn Close for Damages, January Jones for Mad Men, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Anna Paquin of True Blood and Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer. The comedy nominees for male performance are Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock, Steve Carell of The Office, David Duchovny of Californication, Thomas Jane of Hung and Matthew Morrison of Glee. For best female performance in a comedy, the nominees are Toni Collette for United States of Tara, Courteney Cox for Cougar Town, Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, Tina Fey for 30 Rock and Lea Michele of Glee

Best mini-series or TV movie nominees are Georgia O’Keeffe on Lifetime, Little Dorrit from PBS and HBO’s Grey Gardens, Into the Storm and Taking Chance

On the motion picture side, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Up in the Air and Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire are up for best drama. Best actress in a drama nominees are Emily Blunt for The Young Victoria, Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side, Helen Mirren for The Last Station, Carey Mulligan for An Education and Gabourey Sidibe for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. Best actor nods went to Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, George Clooney for Up in the Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man, Morgan Freeman for Invictus and Tobey Maguire for Brothers

The Hangover leads off the comedy nominees, alongside (500) Days of Summer, It’s Complicated, Julie & Julia and Nine. The actress nominees in the category are Sandra Bullock for The Proposal, Marion Cotillard for Nine, Julia Roberts for Duplicity and Meryl Streep is a double nominee, scoring nods for It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia. Best comedic actor noms go to Matt Damon for The Informant!, Daniel Day-Lewis for Nine, Robert Downey Jr. for Sherlock Holmes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt for (500) Days of Summer and Michael Stuhlbarg for A Serious Man

Up for best animated feature film are Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog and Up. Contenders for best foreign launguage film are Baaria (Italy), Broken Embraces (Spain), The Maid (Chile), A Prophet (France) and The White Ribbon (Germany).
