Bravo U.K. Commissions MMA Docuseries

LONDON: The British men’s entertainment channel Bravo has commissioned CPL Productions to make a six-part series that follows mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Alex Reid.

The new series, tentatively titled Alex Reid: The Fight of His Life, will debut as part of Bravo’s new-look spring schedule for 2010. This will be followed by an ‘as live’ BAMMA fight made by Giant Film and TV. The docuseries will spotlight the 34-year-old fighter, known in fighting circles as "The Reidernater," who has been making headlines lately because of his relationship with Katie "Jordan" Price. Over the six episodes, Reid will go to extraordinary lengths to prepare for his fight against current Middleweight Ultimate Challenge World Champion Tom "Kong" Watson. The show will also feature personal video diaries.

Reid commented: "I’m over the moon to have been given this opportunity to do what I love most. There will be no glitz and no glamour— for me it’s just business. I can’t wait to throw myself into learning new skills and bringing something new to the octagon. No doubt there’ll be blood, sweat and frustrations along the way but I just want to get stuck in.”

Mark Sammon, the head of commissioning at VMtv, which operates Bravo, said, "We are delighted to have secured exclusive access to Alex Reid’s fight preparations as he trains for the toughest fight of his career. We’ll see him live, sleep and breathe different fighting styles in his training quest to beat Tom ‘Kong’ Watson, the U.K.’s Champion Middleweight Mix Martial Arts fighter. For Alex the stakes couldn’t be higher as he strives to beat a U.K. champion and re-establish his professional reputation as a top MMA fighter."

Murray Boland, the creative director of CPL, added, “Alex is great. He does not care what the press say about him, he does not care who objects to his relationship with Jordan. In fact he’s easy-going and relaxed about everything—except fighting. His passion for all forms of martial arts is extraordinary.  This, plus the scale of the challenge he is taking on, will make his journey through the world’s most dangerous and unusual fighting styles, utterly compelling. It will reveal the real Alex Reid in very extreme circumstances.”
