Globo, Disney Renew Content Deal

MIAMI: Globo TV has clinched a new four-year agreement to air a slate of content from Disney Media Networks Latin America (DMNLA).

The deal grants Globo TV the exclusive broadcast rights for a wide range of programming in Brazil. This includes a slate of movies such as Walt Disney Pictures’ Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Disney/Pixar’s Cars and the Disney Channel original High School Musical. The agreement was signed by Roberto Buzzoni, the director of programming at Globo TV, and Fernando Barbosa, the senior VP of distribution for Disney Media Networks Latin America.

“We’re very please because both we and Globo understand the value this deal generates for both companies, which is why we decided to extend our partnership," Barbosa said. "We’re convinced that Globo TV is the perfect home for Disney’s content on broadcast television in Brazil. We’ll be giving our best in this new venture. I’d like to thank Globo for the careful handling its given to our properties."

Some of the programs Globo TV will air include Hannah Montana, The Wizards of Waverly Place, JONAS, Sonny with a Chance and Phineas and Ferb. "We’re very satisfied with this new deal, which symbolizes a sign of trust from Disney in our partnership and programming," Buzzoni said. "Globo TV has a successful programming strategy of which, without a doubt, Disney is an important part. Disney’s products have made a difference in our animated series slate since 2005 and in our feature offerings, that thanks to audience preference, have been renowned for their quality and ratings leadership in Brazil.”
