Google Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street

NEW YORK: Google has teamed up with Sesame Workshop to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic kids’ property Sesame Street by featuring original "Google doodles" of the show’s classic characters on its homepage.

The search engine has created modifications to its official logo that will feature photographic depictions of the Sesame Street muppets. The partnership with Sesame Street will be featured on the Google homepage in multiple countries from today until November 10. Web users who click on the doodles will get search results for Sesame Street, including a link to the series’ website, which features games and videos for kids, and content for parents, celebrating the premiere of the show’s 40th season.

“What an incredible way to head into our official anniversary,” said Gary E. Knell, the president and CEO of Sesame Workshop. “Sesame Street transformed the television landscape and Google has done the same in the world of technology.”

"Google doodles aim to celebrate events and anniversaries around the world, while reflecting the personality, interests, and spirit of Google employees," commented Marissa Mayer, the VP of search products and user experience at Google. "We’re excited to celebrate Sesame Street‘s 40th anniversary by featuring their well-known characters on the Google homepage this week. Sesame Street is a wonderful partner, sharing our values of education, diversity and accessibility."
