BAFTA Kids’ Nominations Announced

LONDON: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts today announced the nominees for the 2009 EA British Academy Children’s Awards, taking place in London on November 29, hosted by comedy duo Dick and Dom. 

In addition to presenting awards in categories like animation, channel of the year, drama, entertainment, factual, feature film and preschool, the event will also feature the BAFTA Kids’ Vote, while children 7 to 14 get to vote online for their favorite film, TV show, website and video game. The film shortlist includes Bolt, Coraline, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, High School Musical 3, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Twilight, among others. In TV, the contenders are CBBC’s Blue Peter, Dani’s House, Dustbin Baby, Newsround, Prank Patrol and The Sarah Jane Adventures; Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana and Phineas & Ferb; and Nickelodeon’s iCarly and SpongeBob SquarePants.

 

Up for Channel of the Year are CBBC, CBeebies, Cyw (operated by S4C) and Nick Jr. In the animation category, the nominees are Art Sparks, Chop Socky Chooks, Horrid Henry and Lost and Found. In drama, Dustbin Baby is up against Rhestr Nadolig Wil (Wil’s Christmas List), The Sarah Jane Adventures and US5. Bratz Design Academy is among the contenders for the entertainment category, alongside Election, The Legend of Dick and Dom and Sorry I’ve Got No Head. In factual, Deadly 60 is up for an award, as are the Newsround special Gone, Horrible Histories and Serious Ocean. The feature film contenders are BoltCoraline, High School Musical 3 and Ice Age 3. Preschool is divided into two awards: in animation, the nominees are Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, Humf, Little Princess: A Merry Little Christmas and Peppa Pig; in live action they are Bookaboo, The Christmas Milkshake Show, Grandpa in My Pocket and In the Night Garden.
