NDTV to Buy Back NBCU Stake

MUMBAI: India’s NDTV is said to be buying back the 26-percent stake in its NDTV Networks division held by NBC Universal.

In January 2008, NBC Universal inked a deal to acquire 26-percent of NDTV Networks, which operates NDTV Imagine, a Hindi-language general-entertainment network helmed by former STAR India chief Sameer Nair, and the lifestyle network NDTV Good Times. The agreement included an option for NBC Universal to increase its stake to become a 50-percent partner in NDTV Networks.

NDTV revealed its plans to buy back the stake in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, according to Indian media reports. NBCU spent a reported $150 million on the original investment.
