BBC Entertainment & CBeebies Increase Subscriber Base in Latin America

LONDON/MIAMI: BBC Worldwide has seen an increase of 36 percent in the subscriber base among pay-TV viewers for BBC Entertainment and CBeebies throughout Latin America.

Through a distribution agreement with Televisa Networks, both channels are in 14 countries across Latin America. In Peru, BBC Entertainment and CBeebies are already available to more than 38 percent of pay-TV homes. The growth was led by Cable Magico and its strong expansion initiatives for the development of its digital package. Following additional distribution efforts, both channels are now available to 67 percent of Sky’s Central America digital subscriber base, covering viewers in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama.

“We are very pleased to have accomplished this level of distribution in Latin American for our newly launched channels in such a short period,” said Darren Childs, the managing director of BBC Worldwide Channels. “Our accomplishments in the region at all business levels reflect the high quality of our content, as well as the strength of our partnership with Televisa Networks.”

Bruce Boren, the VP of Televisa Networks, commented, “The BBC brand brings a complete set of incomparable values to Televisa Networks’ already diverse portfolio of offerings. We are honored with the opportunity to support the establishment of BBC Entertainment and CBeebies in the region.”

“Viewers are increasingly showing appreciation for our channels,” added Jessica Rodriguez, the senior VP and general manager of BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America and U.S. Hispanic. “In July, BBC Entertainment saw its best rating and share performance to date, and research is showing us that CBeebies enjoys a higher concentration of our target audience if compared to some of other well established children’s channels.”
