Netflix leads all other channels and platforms in this year’s Emmy nominations, landing a total of 112, while the show with the most nominations is HBO’s Game of Thrones<\/em> with 22.<\/p>\n

HBO, long the most-nominated platform, landed a total of 108 nominations, with NBC in a distant third with 78, followed by FX Networks with 50 and CBS with 34. The Emmys will be presented in a ceremony on Monday, September 17, airing on NBC.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s been another record-breaking year with more than 9,100 entries in 122 unique categories for the initial nomination round of voting,\u201d said Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington. \u201cThe continued growth of the industry has provided opportunities for acclaimed new programs to emerge, while allowing last season\u2019s breakthrough programs to thrive. In addition, 25 performers\u2014ranging from new discoveries to revered international stars\u2014have received their first-ever acting Emmy nomination across all categories of scripted programming. We are honored to recognize both television\u2019s seasoned veterans and rising talents. This year\u2019s nominations continue to represent increased diversity and inclusion in front of the camera. And, there is a wealth of new and returning programs that reflect so many of today\u2019s critical issues.”<\/p>\n

Game of Thrones<\/em>\u00a0is up for outstanding drama, facing off against FX’s The Americans<\/em>, Netflix’s The Crown <\/em>and\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em>, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale<\/em>, NBC’s This Is Us<\/em> and HBO’s Westworld<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The shows nominated for best comedy are FX’s Atlanta<\/em>;\u00a0HBO’s Barry<\/em>, Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em> and Silicon Valley<\/em>;\u00a0<\/em>ABC’s\u00a0black-ish;<\/em>\u00a0Netflix’s GLOW <\/em>and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt<\/em>;\u00a0and Amazon’s\u00a0The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Outstanding limited series nods went to TNT’s The Alienist<\/em>, FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story<\/em>, Nat Geo’s\u00a0Genius: Picasso<\/em>,\u00a0Netflix’s Godless<\/em> and Showtime’s Patrick Melrose<\/em>. In the TV movie category, HBO dominates with three\u2014Fahrenheit 451<\/em>, Paterno<\/em> and The Tale<\/em>\u2014up against Lifetime’s Flint<\/em> and USS Callister<\/em> from Netflix’s Black Mirror<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Contenders for lead actor in a drama series are Matthew Rhys for The Americans<\/em>, Jason Bateman for Ozark<\/em>, Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia for This Is Us<\/em>,\u00a0<\/em>and Westworld<\/em>‘s Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright. Lead actress nominees are Keri Russell for\u00a0The Americans,\u00a0<\/em>Claire Foy for The Crown<\/em>, Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale<\/em>, Sandra Oh for Killing Eve<\/em>, Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black<\/em> and Evan Rachel Wood for Westworld<\/em>.<\/p>\n

For lead actor in a limited series, nominees are Darren Criss for\u00a0The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story<\/em>, Antonio Banderas for Genius: Picasso<\/em>, John Legend for\u00a0Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert<\/em>, Jeff Daniels in The Looming Tower<\/em>, Benedict Cumberbatch in Patrick Melrose<\/em> and Jesse Plemons in Black Mirror<\/em>. Outstanding lead actress contenders are\u00a0Sarah Paulson for\u00a0American Horror Story: Cult<\/em>, Michelle Dockery in Godless<\/em>, Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders<\/em>‘ Edie Falco, Regina King for Seven Seconds<\/em>, Jessica Biel in The Sinner<\/em> and Laura Dern for The Tale<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the directing categories, comedy contenders are Donald Glover and Hiro Murai for Atlanta<\/em>, Bill Hader for Barry<\/em>, Jesse Peretz for GLOW<\/em>,\u00a0Amy Sherman-Palladino for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel<\/em> and\u00a0Mike Judge for Silicon Valley<\/em>; while drama nominations went to Stephen\u00a0Daldry for The Crown<\/em>, Alan Taylor and Jeremy Podeswa for Game of Thrones<\/em>,\u00a0Kari Skogland for The Handmaid’s Tale<\/em>, Jason Bateman and\u00a0Daniel Sackheim for Ozark<\/em>, and The Duffer Brothers for Stranger Things<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Netflix’s Icarus<\/em> is in the running for outstanding documentary or nonfiction special alongside\u00a0<\/strong>Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond<\/em>, produced by VICE for Netflix, PBS’s Mister Rogers: It’s You I Like<\/em>, and HBO’s Spielberg<\/em> and\u00a0The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling<\/em>. In the series category, nominations went to PBS’s American Masters<\/em>, BBC America’s Blue Planet II<\/em>, HBO’s The Defiant Ones<\/em>, Showtime’s The Fourth Estate<\/em> and Netflix’s Wild Wild Country<\/em>.
