WASHINGTON, D.C.: National Geographic Channel has hired Carolyn G. Bernstein, a former Endemol Shine Studios exec, as executive VP and head of global scripted development and production.<\/p>\n

In her new role, which is effective January 4, Bernstein will work out of Los Angeles under National Geographic Global Networks CEO Courteney Monroe. She is expected to help expand the channel’s scripted efforts into long-term, worldwide franchises. This appointment coincides with Nat Geo’s push into premium science, adventure and exploration programming produced in collaboration with top creative talent.<\/p>\n

Previously, Bernstein served as the executive VP of Endemol Shine Studios. She first joined Shine America in 2007 as executive VP of scripted television. She has contributed to the success of such hits as The Bridge <\/em>and Gracepoint<\/em>. She also developed the upcoming thriller Utopia<\/em> while at Shine. Earlier in her career, she worked for The WB, FX and Fox Broadcasting.<\/p>\n
