NEW YORK: Kimberley D. Harris becomes executive VP and general counsel for NBCUniversal on September 3, replacing Rick Cotton, who will now focus on anti-piracy initiatives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Harris’ duties will include offering legal advice to the company’s senior management team and overseeing the law department. She will also be expected to take charge of NBCU’s worldwide regulatory and legislative agenda. Based in New York, she will report to Steve Burke, the CEO of NBCUniversal.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Harris most recently served as a partner in the litigation department at Davis Polk & Wardwell. Previously she was the deputy counsel and deputy assistant to the president at the White House Counsel’s Office.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

"With extensive experience, proven leadership ability, and a track record of success, Kim is a great choice to guide our law department," said Burke. "I look forward to working closely with her in the months and years ahead."<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cotton has been NBCU’s executive VP of general counsel since 2004. He first joined the company as the executive VP and general counsel of NBC in 1989. He is now becoming the senior counselor for IP protection. In that role he will work with the anti-piracy team at NBCU and Comcast on anti-piracy policy and advocacy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
