LAS VEGAS: Roku has surpassed 700 channels on its platform, which now features Time Warner Cable’s TWC TV as part of its offerings. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The company streamed 1 billion hours of entertainment in 2012, having amassing a roster of 700 channels. This includes Amazon Cloud Player, Blockbuster On Demand, FOX NOW, PBS, Spotify and VEVO, among others. Other new additions include Syfy, Flingo, DISHWorld and iHeartRadio. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“When we launched the first Roku player in 2008, it was the very first device to stream Netflix to the TV and offered just that one channel. Today, the content universe is vastly different with many content producers and owners embracing delivery over the Internet and recognizing the broad appeal and strength of the Roku platform,” said Steve Shannon, the general manager of content and services at Roku. “We’re excited to say we have more entertainment choices on Roku today—700 channels—and more importantly, we have the best brands in streaming entertainment.” <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Roku has also entered into a deal with Time Warner Cable to bring TWC TV to its streaming devices in the U.S. TWC TV is an authenticated service available to subscribers of Time Warner Cable video service at no additional cost. At launch, which is expected this month, TWC TV will feature up to 300 live TV channels. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“We’re pleased that our customers will soon be able to access TWC TV via Roku,” commented Mike Angus, the senior VP and general manager for video at Time Warner Cable. “This agreement will allow our customers to enjoy their Time Warner Cable service through their own Roku box connected to their television set.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“The availability of a service like TWC TV on an open platform represents significant milestones for both Time Warner Cable and Roku as well as for the industry overall,” added Anthony Wood, the founder and CEO of Roku. “More importantly, with TWC TV, customers will have more choice in entertainment than was ever possible before.” <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
