LOS ANGELES: Modern Family<\/em> won for best comedy at last night’s Emmy Awards, with creator <\/span><\/span>Steve Levitan<\/span><\/span><\/a> scoring a nod for his work directing the series, and Homeland<\/em><\/a> took the award for best drama.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In total, Game of Thrones<\/em> and Homeland<\/em> tied for the most awards, with six each. Game Change<\/em>, Hatfields & McCoys<\/em> and Modern Family <\/em>followed with five wins each. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For comedy, Jon Cryer won for Two and a Half Men<\/em> as outstanding lead actor, while Veep<\/em>‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus won in the female best performance category. Supporting nods both went to Modern Family<\/em> stars, Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the drama segment, Claire Danes landed the win for Homeland<\/em> as outstanding lead actress, while Homeland<\/em>‘s Damian Lewis was the outstanding lead actor winner. Downton Abbey<\/em>‘s Maggie Smith won for outstanding supporting actress in a drama. Breaking Bad<\/em>‘s Aaron Paul took the win for supporting actor in a drama. Outstanding writing in a drama went to Alex Gansa, Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff for Homeland<\/em>. The directing win in the category went to Tim van Patten for Boardwalk Empire<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart <\/span><\/span><\/em>was named outstanding variety series. The Amazing Race<\/em> won for best reality-competition program. Dancing with the Stars<\/em>‘ Tom Bergeron won for his hosting duties in the reality or reality-competition category. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Julianne Moore won the outstanding lead actress in a mini-series or a movie Emmy for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in HBO’s Game Change<\/em>. Game Change<\/em> also won for outstanding mini-series or movie as well as outstanding directing in the category. Kevin Costner was recognized in the lead actor category for HISTORY’s Hatfields & McCoys<\/em>. In the mini-series or movies arena, supporting wins went to Jessica Lange for American Horror Story<\/em> and Tom Berenger for Hatfields & McCoys<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

HBO was the most-awarded network, with 23 total Emmys. CBS followed with 16, then PBS with 12.
