BURBANK: American Idol<\/em> has begun rebuilding its judging panel following the exits of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, with Grammy Award-winning artist Mariah Carey due to join the show for its new season in 2013.

"As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol<\/em>," said Carey in a statement from FOX. "I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Simon Fuller, Idol<\/em>‘s creator and executive producer, added, "Mariah defines the word ‘Idol’ and will inspire every singer that has the honor of performing in front of her."<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia, said of the singer: "Having sold more than 200 million records worldwide, she’s a true artist, ideally suited to identify and nurture American Idol<\/em>‘s next great music superstars.
