The series follows the masked avenger as he defends the poor and acts as the scourge of military tyrants on his black stallion.<\/p>\n<p>The original series aired from 1957 to 1959, with a total of 78 episodes. The reimagined series is executive produced by Valderrama, Gary Marsh as part of his production banner at Disney General Entertainment and John Gertz (<em>The Mask of Zorro<\/em>, <em>The Legend of Zorro<\/em>) of Zorro Productions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re reimagining this Disney classic as a compelling period piece, set in Pueblo de Los Angeles, but told in a very modern telenovela style\u2014with richly drawn contemporary characters and relationships set against the action, drama, suspense and humor of the original, iconic Zorro,\u201d said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cWilmer shares our commitment to reflect the interesting and rich diversity of the human experience, and we look forward to delivering a culturally relevant and entertaining story with definitional characters that will connect with our viewers for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero,\u201d Valderrama said. \u201cAs an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility in the stories that I help bring to life.
